There are not many countries where you can sit on a beach, maybe 30-40 kilometres long and still be the only person around watching the kangaroos come down to the waters edge at dusk and dolphins playing in the waves! There are many exciting things to see & do in Australia, not to mention some great tours in both the cities and the outback.

Australia is an ancient land - vast, beautiful and home to one of the oldest communities of indigenous people in the world, the Australian Aborigine, whose history on the continent extends back continuously for over 40,000 years! Their stewardship, love and respect for the country and its wildlife over that period is a source of wonder, and has endowed all who live here today with a spectacular natural and cultural bounty.

This is a country with an incredible multicultural mix. Europeans settlers arrived here just over 200 hundred years ago, with most of the now 20 million inhabitants stemming from immigrant parents who have arrived over the past 100 years. It is difficult to find Australians with grandparents all born in Australia, many being still only first or second generation Australians. Prior to the 1970s, Australia had a 'White Australia' policy, precluding immigration from continents such as Asia and Africa, and so most immigrants came from Europe - the UK, Italy, Greece, Germany, Malta, etc.

From 1973 however this policy was (thankfully) scrapped and today the immigrants from Europe have blended with those from China, Vietnam, India and elsewhere to the point where Australia is today one of the most cosmopolitan countries in the world. This mix of people brings with it a great variety of cultures, religions, foods, dress and history, in short an exciting and vibrant community.
